On December 29, 2022, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 amended federal law to continue allowing first dollar coverage of telehealth service under high deductible plans for plan years beginning January 1, 2023 but before January 1, 2025, without jeopardizing the status of the health savings account i.e. members do not have to meet the deductible prior to obtaining telehealth services. For calendar year plans, this means that the extension applies for the 2023 and 2024 calendar years. Federal law previously allowed for such first dollar coverage for the months of April 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022.
